Principal Immanuel Lutheran School

Dear ILS
Families,
Welcome back and welcome to our new ILS families!
It seems like it was only a few weeks ago that we said our
goodbyes for the summer, but here we are again. I hope that
your summer was restful and enjoyable. Here at ILS we were
very busy during the months of July and August. As you walk
through the hallways, you will notice some changes that
took place over the summer.
Many volunteers from the church painted, cleaned, and moved
furniture in preparation for the school year. The floors in
3rd
and 4th grade and the conference room were
tiled. The conference room was completely remodeled.
Numerous classrooms were painted and the following classes
are now located here: 3rd grade-Rm. 206, 4th grade-Rm. 205, MS ELA/SS-Rm. 202, Art
and Ex Care-Rm. 201, MS Math-math lab (next to computer
lab), ½ day PK-Rm. 101, full day PK-Rm. 103
Thank you to the volunteers who made this all possible!
ILS welcomes new preschool teacher Elizabeth Brose and
kindergarten assistant Shannon Larkin. Miss Brose comes to
us from Concordia College in NY. She has her bachelor’s
degree in Early Childhood Education and she has also earned
a Lutheran Teacher’s Diploma. Miss Brose student taught in
Bronxville and Yonkers, NY prior to ILS. She has recently
moved to Danbury from Massachusetts, so be sure to share
with her all the great places to eat and visit in the area.
Miss Larkin will be replacing Miss Vill as the kindergarten
aide this year as Miss Vill has been promoted to the
kindergarten teacher. Miss Larkin graduated this spring
from Eastern University with a degree in Elementary
Education with Early Childhood and Special Education. Miss
Larkin recently student taught internationally in Thailand.
She has also served as a teacher’s assistant and camp
counselor in NY, PA, and New Fairfield.
As previously mentioned, Miss Vill will be serving as the
kindergarten teacher this year. Mrs. Puglisi has moved
upstairs to teach grade 5. (Mrs. Puglisi taught
4th
grade for a number of years
at ILS prior to kindergarten.) Mrs. Baker will now serve as
a full time middle school teacher and the middle school
department head. Having Mrs. Baker in a full time middle
school capacity allows for all grades to be separated for
all core subjects. The only time classes will be combined
throughout the year is for discovery classes.
Students will be introduced to a new mathematics program
this year. After more than a year of research and
discussions, ILS has selected Envisions as its new math
text. This program was selected in part because of its
ability to spiral topics, incorporate real world
situations, provide writing and word problems, various
forms of assessment, and eye-catching and interesting
material within the pages of the texts and resources.
Please be sure to review the Student and Parent Handbook
that is included in the folder that came home with your
child. There has been some revisions made throughout. Also
take note of the healthy snack alternatives that can be
found in the folder as well.
In order to provide a healthier school we are urging all
parents to avoid sending cookies, cupcakes, brownies, etc.
to school for snack and birthday celebrations. Fruits,
vegetables, crackers, and pretzels are just some examples
of more nutritious treats that you can provide. If we all
work on this together, we will all be the better for it.
All students are required to have a completed Extended-Care
contract on file. Please complete the contracts and return
them to the school office. Completing the Ex-Care contract
DOES NOT automatically enroll you in the program. You must
contact the school office for the days of enrollment. By
having an Extended-Care contract on file, if an emergency
arises you may put your child in Ex-Care for the day. The
cost for Extended-Care for the school year is $7hr. or
$3.50 for 1/2hr.
If you have not yet completed and turned in the emergency
sheet mailed to you a few weeks ago, be sure to return it
to the school office as soon as possible. This is a very
important piece of information and you must notify the
school office through the year if any changes are made. ILS
has also enrolled in the Honeywell Instant Alert Program.
In order to be notified in emergencies, please be sure to
include as many contact numbers as possible.
I know this seems to be a lot of information that has just
been passed on and if you have any questions feel free to
speak with me. I look forward to sharing the year with you
and your child as we work to make disciples. I pray for a
successful year working with you and your child.
In Christ’s Service,
Principal Palkewick
