The school year has been moving quickly along! We have been learning so many new and exciting things. We are busy learning about the life cycles of animals and plants, the sun, moon and stars in Science.
In Reading, we have joined with the fourth graders and we are reading the novel Shiloh, by Phyllis Reynold Naylor. We are learning a lot about the state of West Virginia, which is where the story takes place. We are also learning about re- sponsibilies for pet ownership and how to make difficult decisions.
Currently in Social Studies, we are expanding our knowledge of communities and looking at our very own, Danbury! We have learned that it was founded in 1684 by a man named John Hoyt. He was from Norwalk and purchased the land from the Potatuck tribe. It was also an important crossroad and stopping ground during the Revolutionary War. Did you know that Danbury was a trading post? Did you know that the British burned the city of Danbury in 1777? We are full of knowledge of our community and we are excited to learn more. As we are quickly moving into the holiday season, the third graders want to wish all of you a wonderful, healthy and happy Thanksgiving!
